Third Year

Craft Interventions

This project was set to coincide with an exhibition being held at the university called Future Craft. The brief was set to encourage the use of a craft based technique to act as an intervention within the proposed environment.
The exhibition was set in the Matthew building within the Duncan of Jordanstone art school and it would be this environment which would dictate how the intervention would work.
I wanted to incorporate the use of knit within my piece and decided to
work with the concrete walls of the building as my
inspiration. Vertical strips of concrete are a very prominent feature within and it was this i wanted to reflect in my piece. I also wanted my intervention to be  a piece that would blend into its surroundings, the idea of using the knitted structures to soften the very harsh, rigid walls.
I used a combination of machine and finger knitted lengths
to works alongside the vertical strips to create a wall hanging.
